The Navamsha

The ninth part of the Rashi or the sign is known as navamsha.

The navamsha calculation starts from the sign itself in the movable signs; from the ninth sign in fIxed signs and from the fifth sign in the dual signs.

Comments :

1. The ninth part of a sign is known as navamsha. One sign extends to 30 degrees. 30 degrees divided into nine parts makes one part equal to 3 degrees and 20 minutes.
2. For the movable signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) the navamsha calculation starts from the sign itself; for fIxed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) the navamsha calculation starts from the ninth sign from it, and for dual signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) the navamsha calculation starts from the fifth sign from it.

The lord of navamshas are Deva, Nara and Rakhshasha respectively.
